CONTAX Zeiss 100mm f2 @ MFD

In this post I’ll be comparing the CONTAX Zeiss 100mm f2 at minimum focus distance, to the Nikon Z 105mm f2.8. These are very difference lenses designed for different uses, and still I found myself deciding between the two lenses because of the similar focal length, and the fact that the Nikon Z 105 macro has autofocus and can also be used for macro.

The above was shot with the CONTAX Zeiss 100mm f2 at minimum focus distance @ f2. I love how this lens accurately reproduces colors, and is incredibly sharp wide open.

For comparison, below is a shot from the Nikon Z 105mm f2.8 Macro, at minimum focus distance @ f2.8.

The Nikon Z 105mm Macro obviously allows you to get much closer. The build quality is nowhere near that of the Zeiss lens. It’s also rather clunky to work with. For portraits it won’t be replacing my CONTAX Zeiss 100mm f2, but I’ll hang onto it for macro photography.
